Mount Pleasant Area Junior-Senior High School is a combination of a two grade level junior high and four year comprehensive high school with approximately 950 students in grades seven through twelve. The secondary building was opened in 1965 as a jointure of Mount Pleasant Township Hurst and Mount Pleasant Ramsay High Schools. Located in the beautiful Laurel Highlands, MPA Jr-Sr HS is located approximately 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, PA.
In addition to three counselors and three administrators, the professional staff at MPA Jr-Sr HS includes approximately 60 classroom teachers. Over half the teachers have ten or more years professional experience in curriculum and instruction. Another 20 employees in a range of clerical, custodial, food service, technical, and other support positions bring the total secondary staff to near 100.
Classes are arranged on a traditional nine period schedule with an activity period at the end of the day. Each class period is 40 minutes long. The schedule rotates elective courses on an A/B daily schedule. The 25 minute daily activity period allows professional staff to meet weekly and for students to participate in extra curricular activities or seek remediation and enrichment opportunities from staff. Three lunches serve all students and students are given four minutes for passing periods between classes.
